Modern Technique is offered to Intermediate/Advanced KPBA students on a weekly basis and augments our formal ballet curriculum. Classes focus on diverse techniques, such as Graham, Cunningham or Horton, to prepare advanced dancers for the Modern repertoire of University Dance Programs or Professional Ballet Companies.
Character classes are taught from time to time in order to acquaint students with character dances (e.g., the Polonaise and Mazurka) that appear in full lengths ballets, such as Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.
Kristina is a certified Pilates instructor from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and teaches Pilates classes to KPBA students from time to time. Pilates is a Physical Fitness System developed in the early 20th Century by Joseph Pilates. The technique focuses on posture, strength and flexibility, all of which are important for dancers. Ballet companies, dance teachers and dance coaches recommend Pilates exercises for dancers to improve their balance, flexibility, muscles, movements, posture, strength and coordination.
